Board and Staff

The Library and Staff
Portage District Library is supported by a millage paid by tax payers in the City of Portage and Portage Public School District. The Library is governed by an elected board and run by nearly fifty full and part-time employees. They are assisted by many volunteers from the community. Meet the Staff

The Board
Portage District Library board members are elected to office as part of the Portage Public School District election process, and are seated for four-year terms. The Library Board is composed of seven members, and officers of the board include a Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary. The role of the Library Board is to represent the interests of library constituents by:

  • Setting the library’s millage levy
  • Controlling expenditures
  • Establishing policies
  • Appointing and overseeing the Library Director
  • Guiding the future of the library through long-range strategic planning
