The Friends book sales are held five times a year, on the first
Saturday of the month from 9 am to 3 pm at the Portage District
Library, in the lower level meeting rooms, If you are a member of
the Friends, you are also eligible to attend an “early bird” sale on the afternoon before the main book sales, from 4 to 5:30
pm. For more information or to volunteer to help at book sales,

We have thousands of books for sale at great prices. The books are
organized by category to make browsing easy and fun. The book sales
are run by volunteers, and every penny generated by the sale goes
to the Portage District Library. We depend on YOUR generous and
welcome donations for the books we sell. Please see the guidelines
below for types of donations accepted:
Books
Children’s Books
CD’s
Games
Puzzles
Records
Tapes
Videos
Any books that are moldy, falling apart
or do not have covers
Magazines after the year 1950
Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
Textbooks
Donations can be made any time the Library
is open,
except for the week of a book sale. If you have large quantities
to donate, please call in advance of drop-off. Carts are available
from the Checkout Desk to make delivery of your donations easier.
The donations are given to the Friends of
the Portage District Library for its quarterly book sales. Proceeds
from these sales enable the Friends to fund library projects and
activities not covered by the Library’s operating budget.
YES. Contributions made to the Portage District
Library or to the Friends of the Portage District Library are tax
deductible. A receipt is available upon request. Just ask fore one
at the checkout desk. If an itemized list of your donation (s) is
required for tax purposes, please prepare the list before bringing
your donation to the library.
There is a continuous sale area adjacent to the Checkout Desk. Only
hard cover,adult books are sold at this location. These books cost
$1.00 each and can be paid for at the Checkout Desk.
