1.) The first way to qualify for a Portage District Library Card is by living in or owning property or a business in the Portage School District (PDF) and City of Portage (PDF).
For individuals who fall into this category, you immediately qualify for a card by showing one of the following to the checkout desk:
- Your valid Michigan driver’s license
- Your Michigan ID
- Your Portage School ID
- Your property tax receipt
You may also apply for a card online by clicking here. Once you fill out your membership form and submit it, the library will go through a verification process and mail your card to you. You will be contacted if your application for membership is denied. It may take seven to ten days for your card to arrive once you submit an application. If you need your membership sooner, please visit the library in person with appropriate identification.
2.) The second way to qualify for a free Portage District Library card is by living in a library district that has arranged for reciprocal, or shared, access with the Portage District Library. For more information about reciprocal cards, click on the link to the left.
3.) For all others, we offer free computer access cards or you may purchase an annual non-resident library card. Those over 62 years old may purchase a senior non-resident membership at a discount of 50%. Please check our fee schedule for current rates.
