A portion of Sugarloaf Lake including the top half which is currently referred to as Mud Lake is situated in the southwest corner of the City of Portage with the remainder located in the Township of Schoolcraft. The lake is located within the Gourdneck State Game Area allowing it to retain an extremely natural appearance.
