Experience Art at the Library

The Portage District Library is where art, community, and inspiration converge.

We have more than books!

Whether you’re looking to appreciate an inspirational movie, learn a new skill, or find your next favorite band, there’s something here for everyone.

Movies & Music

Browse our rich collection of digital downloads and streaming options in our Digital Library or delve deeper into our extensive catalog of physical materials for even more choices.

With Hoopla & Kanopy, you can access, block busters, independent films, documentaries, acclaimed titles from The Criterion Collection and more. Stream or download for later enjoyment.

Freegal allows you to choose from over 3 million songs that you can sample and download to keep.

Additionally, our dedicated library staff have curated easy-to-navigate searches for various music and movie genres available in our physical collection just for you.

Gallery Spaces

Discover local artistic talent right here at the Library. Every month, we showcase artists from our community in our Café Gallery and Atrium Gallery.

Explore our newly added Young Artist’s Gallery located in the Youth Area, featuring captivating creations by young talents aged 10 and below.

Investigate our events calendar to find and attend artist receptions held to celebrate new art exhibits. These occasions are a great chance for community members to interact with the exceptional local artists we showcase.

Discussion Groups

Dive into engaging discussions on books, films, and ideas with your community. While many of our monthly dialogues cater to adults, we ensure young minds are not left out. We host grade-specific discussions for youth and teens, including the annual Portage Communiteen Read, a joint initiative with Portage Public Schools.

In collaboration with Kalamazoo Public Library, we proudly host discussion groups related to the annual community program, Reading Together. In addition, we offer a selection of other “Book Discussion in a Bag” kits to enhance group reading experiences. We’re also home to “Plots and Pages,” a gathering for local writers.
