For hard-to-find books, movies, and music, try our interlibrary loan service through MeLCat, or “Michigan eLibrary Catalog”. Portage District Library is a member of MeLCat and the Southwest Michigan Library Cooperative, which provide you with access to materials from libraries throughout the state.

If you are unable to locate a title you are looking for in our library catalog, try searching MeLCat. Members can directly request items to come from libraries located throughout the state of Michigan. (Reciprocal members must go back to their home library for this service.) You just need to have your library barcode and an email address. All materials requested will be delivered to the Portage District Library. You will be notified when your requested items arrive. MeLCat requests can be picked up at the Checkout Desk.

If you are unable to locate the title you need on MeLCat, please contact one of our librarian staff for further assistance. You can call 329-4544 or visit our contact page. Recently released titles, may not be available to request via MeLCat, but we may be able to purchase the title to add to the Library’s collection.

Don’t forget about our many reciprocal borrowing agreements with other local libraries. You may be able to find what you need locally and check it out directly! Click here for more information about reciprocal borrowing.
